Arlo Guthrie – The Lost World Tour

In addition to being an accomplished musician–playing the piano, six and twelve-string guitar, harmonica and a dozen other instruments–Arlo is a natural-born storyteller whose hilarious tales and timeless anecdotes are woven seamlessly into his performances.

 

 

If you’ve been to an Arlo Guthrie concert in the past 20 years it’s likely you’ve seen Abe’s great smile, heard his adept and tasteful keyboard accompaniment along with his powerful supporting vocals. In a recent interview Arlo was quoted: “Abe is a great musician and covers the bass for me, and whatever else I need.” Abe started performing professionally with his father in the early 80’s.

 

The three Burns sisters — Annie, Marie, and Jeannie, have been singing together all their lives, at times others of their siblings joined in. Their mother Teresa, who sang in the church choir, taught them and so it began. Wild Bouquet is the eighth Burns Sisters Band album. It’s an album of love, grace and understanding. It’s also an album with songs that fit our times. They met Arlo Guthrie in 2004 at the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival in Woody’s hometown of Okemah, Oklahoma. This meeting sent them on a train ride with “Arlo Guthrie and Friends Ridin’ on the City of New Orleans — Benefiting Victims of Katrina” appropriately.

 

Terry “A La Berry” Hall has been performing professionally since age 13. He toured the world for 14 years as drummer for Arlo Guthrie. He appears on 10 of Arlo’s CDs and played at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, The White House, The Today Show and shared the stage with Bonnie Raitt, Carly Simon, Joe Cocker, John Denver, Willie Nelson and Pete Seeger to name a few. Terry A La Berry has been entertaining kids around the country for the past 18 years as part of David Grover and the Big Bear Band. When not busy with David Grover he tours and performs his own music and his new CD Never Be As Big As Hannah Montana, has been recently released.

 

As a Berkshire native and sixth-generation musician, Bobby Sweet began performing at age 7 in his father’s band. A sought-after lead guitarist, he has played shows with Vince Gill, George Jones, Asleep at the Wheel, Willie Nelson, The Bellamy Brothers, Waylon Jennings, and many others. He has written songs that have aired on many hit television series such as Touched By An Angel, Walker Texas Ranger, Judging Amy, and Soul Food, among others. The singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has recently released his fifth solo album Days Roll By to critical acclaim.

    

Another Berkshire native, bassist Jody Lampro has played with both Arlo and Bobby in the past. In 2007 Jody teamed with Ben Hillman to work on a tune for a film about the creation of the hydrogen bomb called Bomb Squad.

 

Arlo starts out The Lost World Tour traveling across The United States and Canada in October 2008. Guthrie will be playing new songs, along with a few classics. The Burns Sisters will be singing back-up. Abe will join them onstage, playing the keyboards. Terry comes back as the drummer, while Bobby is the lead guitar, and Jody is the bassist.

Disappointed, and very Disrespected

Disappointed that, with the exception of one phone call from Alan, none of the guys have been in touch since my illness, just to find out how I am doing, and how we will foresee the future for YES. And disappointed that they were not willing to wait till 2009 when I’m fully recovered.

And I feel very disrespected, having spent most of this year creating songs and constant ideas for the band, spending time with Roger Dean creating a stage design, also working with VH1 and Sirius and XM Radio to help promote the welfare of YES.

Getting sick was not “on my radar”, and I thank my own angel Janeee and my family for helping me through this difficult time, and the many well wishers, friends and fans alike, for understanding that ”things happen”.

Of course I wish the guys all the best in their ’solo’ work, but I just wish this could have been done in a more gentlemanly fashion. After all YES is a precious musical band.

This is not YES on tour…

Not Yes!

I am deeply upset to have read this news on Jon Anderson’s official site.  I’m disappointed with some of the members of Yes.  I can’t believe they would behave in this manner to such a wonderful man.  Jon doesn’t deserve this treatment.  Why?  All I ask is why?

Yes – In the Present Tour

I’m not so sure I’m on board for this one.  I was truly bummed when I couldn’t see Jon Anderson play with Yes at Red Rocks.  I don’t understand why they are even bothering.  Can’t they just wait for Jon’s recovery?

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 10, 2008—Albums like Fragile, Close to the Edge Tales from Topographic Oceans and 90125 and singles such as “Roundabout,” “Owner of a Lonely Heart” and “I’ve Seen All Good People” are just some of the enduring classics that have made YES one of the most influential and groundbreaking groups in rock & roll. Now, the classic YES line-up of guitarist Steve Howe, bassist Chris Squire and drummer Alan White will launch the “In The Present” tour starting November 4th in Hamilton, Ontario, marking yet another chapter in the art-rockers’ amazing, 40-year career of legendary live performances. The three will be joined by keyboardist Oliver Wakeman, the son of YES’ Rick Wakeman, and vocalist Benoit David, a Montreal, Quebec, native and vocalist in several YES tribute groups, who was discovered by the band on the Internet.

With a remarkable 40-year career that has time and again redefined the boundaries of rock, YES was formed in 1968 by Chris Squire and Jon Anderson, who shared a mutual interest in vocal harmonies and classical music. With drummer Bill Bruford, guitarist Peter Banks and keyboardist Tony Kaye, they became YES, earning a residency at the famed London venue The Marquee Club, where they played with the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Pink Floyd, releasing their self-titled debut album in July 1969.

Guitarist Steve Howe, who went on to play in the popular prog-rock groups Asia and GTR and continues releasing acclaimed solo albums and touring, brought an experimental cutting edge to YES for their 1970’s The Yes Album, their first number one album in the UK. Drummer Alan White, who had been hand-picked to play on John Lennon’s Imagine and George Harrison’s All Things Must Pass, came aboard in 1972. YES then went on to conquer America and played at some of the largest paid attendance concerts of all time including the JFK Stadium in Philadelphia in 1976 to a crowd of over 130,000 people.

YES postponed plans for a 40th anniversary Close to the Edge and Back tour in June, when vocalist Jon Anderson suffered a severe asthma attack and was diagnosed with acute respiratory failure. Commented Squire: “This isn’t an attempt to replace Jon Anderson, because as we all know, that would be impossible. With Benoit, we are bringing in a talented singer so that we can go out and honor the music of YES for the fans who have waited for the past four years to see us perform.”

A dominant force in rock music for more than four decades, YES has created some of rock’s most enduring and compelling hits, selling more than 30 million albums worldwide. The group has defined music history with their dynamic instrumental contrasts and abstract lyrics.
